I share this photograph with so much gratitude for the privilege to have traveled with Nelson Mandela, in 1990. on his first trip across America, four months after his release from prison after 27 years for his beliefs in a non-racist, democratic South Africa. This photograph was made on our last leg of this historic journey, and four years before Madiba would be elected as the first Black President of a democratic South Africa.
