Doors in Pipes:

There are different pipes in the walls of your house. There are pipes that carry cold water, and others for hot water. There are pipes that carry gas to kitchen stoves, and others that carry steam to heaters.

As long as there is something flowing through a pipe, there should be a device that stops this flow when we want. Such a device is called a valve (stopcock).

Faucet Valve:

This is an open pipe from which water flows (1). To stop the flow of water, you can insert a cork stopper into the open end of the pipe (2). However, this is not a practical method, as the water splashes violently whenever you try to stop the flow of water. But suppose we were able to expand part of the pipe to put the stopper in it (3). In this case, the water spray does not hit us, but we encounter another obstacle. , is to reach the stopper, to allow the water to flow or to hold it back.

This problem is solved by making a hole in the pipe and placing a twisted piece of metal in this hole. This piece of metal has a handle at one end (4). When we turn the hand in one direction, the twisted piece of metal moves the stopper away from the pipe, allowing the water to flow. When the hand is turned in the opposite direction, the stopper is pushed into the pipe and stops the flow of water.

The faucet stopper is not actually made of cork, but rather small round pieces, called a rose or sleeve, made of rubber, fabric or plastic.

Pipe valves:

If a plumber wants to repair a faucet or any other part of the water pipes in your home, he must first stop the flow of water. He does this by turning the pipe valve, which is actually a type of faucet.

If we turn the little wheel at the top of the faucet, a metal rod or disc is pushed into the hole through which the water flows. This is the function of the rose or sleeve in the faucet. If we turn the wheel of the faucet in the opposite direction, it is as if you have pulled the metal rod or disc away from this hole, thus allowing the water to flow again. You may find some of these valves (cocks) in the pipes under the kitchen sink or in the bathroom or in the place where you store your things. In this storage there is a large valve near the street, whose job is to stop the water from flowing through all the pipes in your house.
