CIBACHROME PRINTING
An alternative process for printing directly from colour slides is Cibachrome This works on a quite different principle from reversal processing , and is , on the whole , simpler . The coloured dyes that make up the final image in the print are already present in the paper , and so are rich and long - lasting . There are just five steps in the processing , including a water rinse after the development - and a final water wash . The chemical kit either Process P - 30 or P - 30 P is available in two litre and five litre packs ; but as each sachet of chemical contains enough to make up a solution of exactly one litre , it is not necessary to make up the full amount . Do not , however , try to split up sachets . There are two paper types , one with a lustre finish ( Cibachrome - A II CRCA.44M ) , the other with a gloss finish ( Cibachrome - A II CPSA.1K ) .
Starting with Cibachrome
1 Begin by preparing the solutions as described in the leaflet supplied with the chemicals .
2 Put a slide in the enlarger and compose the image on the baseboard .
3 Take the recommended filters from the CIBACHROME A filter set , together with the uv filter , and put them into the filter drawer of the enlarger .
4 Turn off room lights and expose an 8x10in ( 20x 25cm ) sheet .
5 While still in the dark , insert the exposed sheet . emulsion facing inwards , into a clean dry drum . Close the drum .
6 In the light , measure out 75ml of each solution including rinse water , ensuring that they are all up to temperature ( 24 ° )
7 Pour the developer into the drum , lay it on a flat surface and roll the drum back and forth for 3 minutes . Rinse for 30 seconds , bleach for 3 minutes and fix for 3 minutes .
8 Pour used solutions into a container or retain in separate bottles if required for reuse .
9 At the end of the processing sequence , carefully remove the print from the drum and wash it in running water for 3 minutes .
10 Hang the print up to dry at room temperature . Alternatively , place it on an absorbent surface or use a hairdryer .
