Perfect skies can be put in photo
The washed - out , cloudless sky in your shot can be transformed into a beautiful summer's day azure blue complete with absolutely perfect clouds . Swimming pools can be " blued - up " to make them more attractive looking . Many other glamorizing touches can be deftly done to make the photo eye catching .
These services cost extra , of course , but they are well worth it and your customer , because of his de sire for his place or product to look beautiful will be receptive to the additional costs which , gener ally , are quite modest for the amount of work per formed . In some cases you will even be able to take a percentage commission on the " extras . "
Besides the postcard lines , you can also sell folders , brochures , Christmas and other greeting cards , catalog pages , illustrated menus , business cards and a number of other handsomely - printed 4 - color products . Placemats matchbooks and calendars are and letterheads , salable items on which you can profit .
There are standard layouts for all of these . You merely shoot the illustrations to fit . Some cus tomers may , however , want a custom design and the printers can furnish special layout services for such orders . They have commercial artists who will design the product and work with you to fulfill the order . Being printers , they also set type for captions and other descriptive copy for the cards and brochures . There are set amounts of type included in the basic selling price , i.e. , approx imately 50 words on a postcard .
One line of type that you should include on all of your postcard orders is your own credit line which acts as a divider between the message and address areas on the backside of the card . Those credit lines will help you get more and more clients !
Besides your initial profit on shooting the color illustrations for the final product , you will make an average commission of about $ 35 on an order of 3,000 cards . This is the standard minimum postcard order . Whenever your client re - orders additional quantities of the product whether he places the order through you or direct to the printer you collect your commission again ( without having to do any more work ) . If the client re - orders 10 times over a period of a few years , you collect the commission each time !
Commissions are higher , of course , on larger quantities and on the special jobs such as bro chures , greeting cards , etc. The profits are there for you to reap . The thing you have to do is to sell the customers and shoot the pictures !
