I said , you might be ready . If you have a little nest egg of reserve capital you can take the step . The reserve capital is to tide you over the lean periods when there will be " nothing coming in " . Obviously , if you have been selling the competitive magazine , calendar and greeting card markets you have talent or they wouldn't buy from you . And , if you've been knocking yourself out weekends and evenings , you are dedicated . So , you are set to go fulltime pro freelancer .
PHOTO stories and layouts with animals and pets sell to magazines , Sunday supplements .
You'll quickly find when you go fulltime free lancer , that the accumulated and piled up work will dwindle away fairly fast . You could conceivably get into a barren period before you know it . But , your financial reserve will carry you over the lean times .
A good rule of thumb for reserve capital is to have enough to last you for six months . Figure out how much you need to live and pay all your bills for one month and multiply by six . If you like to live it up and find it difficult to save , you had better start with a one year reserve fund !
