One area where you can start building your repu tation as an animal photographer is to do home portraiture of pets and animals . It is a field that is virtually untouched . Most professional " people " photographers are too busy with their regular clien tele to bother with animal portraits .
Regardless of where you live big town or small , city or country , there are animals all around you needing to be photographed . The pet industry today generates more than 2 billion dollars of busi ness annually . People love their pets and would pay good money for good pictures of their animals . You can do it .
Contact a couple of the most respected and influ ential members of your community and offer to photograph their pet free . Tell them quite can -didly that the pictures you give them to hang in their home , office or shop will be seen by their friends and will generate future sales for you a specialist in animal and pet portraiture .
That is exactly what will happen . People will see the photos and they will want to have fine pictures made of their own pets . Word of mouth will bring you even more customers .
After you've built up a fairly good collection of outstanding animal photographs , go to your local bank , library , hospital or other institution where there is a good flow of people and arrange to have an exhibition of your animal pictures . When you first start selling to newspapers , stay with the small local papers . In rural areas it is usual ly a weekly , while in the suburbs and small towns it might be a small daily . Avoid the big city papers at the beginning . Your chances of sales will be far greater with the small papers than with a big one .
