Pilots know flight rules
Professional pilots will know all of the rules im posed by the Federal Aviation Agency regarding use of air space , proper altitudes , required radio contact and clearances ( permission to fly in certain restricted or congested areas ) . If your first attempts at aerials are made in a friend's plane , be sure he knows the flight rules because they are extremely varied and complicated . Violations are severely punished - but , that is the concern of the pilot ( professional or pri vate ) since it is his license that is at stake .
Your concern , as well as his , must be for the safety of the flight . Basically , the altitude rule is 1000 feet above the ground or above the highest point in a built - up area . Three hundred feet is legal over open areas where no people or buildings exist . The same applies for over water but not over boats . Some states have different rules , too .
When hiring your plane and before starting the flight , have a conference with your pilot . Plan all of the details ahead of your flight . Once in the air , you'll have enough other things to remember .

First choice would be the American Trainer at $ 27 per hour . For obliques , a hatch slides back and the pilot can put the plane into a bank . You'll have no obstructions when shooting from this great little low wing plane .
Cessna 150 , widely available - $ 29 per hour . Cessna 172 ( $ 36 per hour ) is a high wing type ( as is the 150 ) . The left window can be opened or a door taken off , if you can talk the operator of the rental service into doing so . Both Cessnas fly fine with the door removed .
Piper Cherokee is a low wing aircraft ( $ 36 per hour ) . The door cannot be removed nor a window opened so you must shoot through the window pane . Of course , the old familiar Piper Cub is fine for pic tures but it is now a rare bird .

However , if a newspaper is doing a feature article on of the new construction in your town or , the new highways that are coming through the area , the new parks and recreation areas underway and they will pay $ 10- $ 15 or more .
