" That is a specific instruction set forth by Salt Water Sportsman magazine in outlining its picture and article needs . Sports fishermen are conservationists and a photo of a dock covered with fish with several happy anglers smiling into the camera , rankles them . So , Salt Water Sports man magazine wouldn't use such a picture .
They do look for , " Pictures that , wherever pos sible , tell the story of the article . Action photos showing jumping fish ; anglers playing , beaching , gaffing or boating fish are always in demand . " SWS ' spec sheet also notes , " In all cases we buy first American rights only and we report within one month . " This means that same material could be sold to another magazine or market out side of the U.S. or , could be resold at a later date .
Many industrial and manufacturing companies that have need for freelance photography also go to the trouble of publishing picture guidance and specification literature . The New Holland Divi sion of Sperry Rand Corp. , makes motorized farm equipment and is always on the lookout for pic tures .

The manufacturer of " Big 4 " trucks needs " Dra matic color photographs of Autocar , White , Freight liner and Western Star trucks in use under all kinds of conditions . Pictures should rivet the viewer's atten tion on the truck or some significant feature of it .
" Composition and lighting should emphasize the abilities of the truck ( its strength , power , rugged construction , versatility ) . Show just enough locale to clearly suggest the job conditions in which the unit is working . "

If you've got a number of really good color photos of " Big 4 " trucks in use , send them along . We might buy them all .
