FIGURE STUDY LOCATIONS
A frustrating aspect of glamour photography is finding locations to photograph nude studies . In your travels you will see beautiful areas containing waterfalls , streams and ideal possibilities . Or , perhaps it may be a beach covered with driftwood or rock formations which would make magnificent backgrounds . However , since travel has become so common place it is next to impossible to have the privacy necessary . Sometimes beach locations can be used without interference in the early morning hours but someone always seems to intrude .
If you are fortunate enough to find a location , then look out that the scene itself doesn't overpower you . The model can become lost if you are too concerned with capturing the beauty of an entire vista . Learn to select choice sections . For example - when working with waterfalls , the tendency is to show the model small in relation ship to the tumbling cascade . This is alright if that is what you came to photograph - or , as only one or two pictures in a series .
However , the model is the subject and the location is merely the setting in which she is to be pictured . Move in close , crop out part of the scene , perhaps only use the water itself . When working with rock formations , cut off part of the overall formation or use it to frame the model . Better yet , use the rough rock to contrast with the smooth lines and complexion of the model's face and figure .
REAL THING IS BEST
Authentic backgrounds are always better than artificial set - ups . There are times when you may have to set up a beach scene in the studio . This type of artificiality is only good for postery type pictures used in some forms of advertising . A girl in a bikini looks much better when posed on the sand or in the water or related outdoor .
beach setting ; a girl in a sexy negligee is more in character if posed in a bed room than in the woods . There are exceptions , of course , but as a general rule the costume ( and the client ) , will determine the setting that you are to use .
FILTERS AND FLASH
The use of filters or flash can change the background . With black and - white film and a red filter , the sky will be dramatically darkened . This is something to be used only on special occasions because the red filter also does strange things to the model's eyes , lips and skin tones . A deep yel low or an orange filter generally works best , especially when taking action shots in the water .
A night effect can be achieved by placing the flash close to your model and under - exposing the background . When printed , the background goes almost completely black .
The reverse of this is to over - expose the background by placing the model in the shade and using the sun for backlighting . Over - expose the back ground by using the exposure meter reading for the girl , rather than read ing the general scene . The girl will be recorded in normal density while the background washes out .
