ولسنوات خلت ، عندما كانت الأفلام بطيئـة التـأثـر ، وبحاجة إلى كمية كبيرة من الضوء ، كان ضوء النهار هو المصدر العملي الوحيد للإضاءة ، وهو لا يزال المصدر الأهم ، لأن معظم الصور لا تزال تلتقط تحت الضوء الطبيعي .
