This bird spent most of the time walking around the water's edge or in a few inches. But suddenly it jumped up onto this nice perch. I have a saying I use quite often concerning nature photography. A vertical subject often warrants a vertical composition. Learn that phrase and think about when a vertical composition will be more visually appealing.
