Temporary Conversions
EGINNING DARKROOM workers dream of permanent locations in which to construct suitable photo labs for their needs. Until that time, temporary conversion of such areas as the bathroom, kitchen or even a closet will be the answer. Or, a portable roll-about unit might solve the situation for the time being.
While closets usually do not have flowing water available in them, they generally have an electric outlet and if the "room" is large enough for you to enter and at least include a card table and a chair - you can do darkroom operations on a limited scale simply by making the facility light-tight. You will have to mix your develop- ing and fixing solutions outside and position them on the card table or a shelf.
Since a film developing tank doesn't take up much space, you can easily load your exposed films into the tank(s) and then bring them out into the light to continue with the actual developing and fixing stages. Printing does, however, require room for the contact printer and/or enlarger.
Use card table for enlarger
The photographer working with 35mm and 120-size films will find their enlarger is compact enough to work satisfactorily when positioned on a sturdy card table and, still have room for other items.
