Let her Get Wet !
ANY PICTURES where your subject is going to either get wet or be around water should be saved for the last of the day . If you have to worry about getting her hair wet or costume splashed , there's not much point in using water at all . For this reason it is most important to have a model who is a good sport and who values the results enough to be a little un comfortable .
One does not have to live near the ocean , river or lake to make use of water in your glamour shots . True , these offer the best natural locations but there are many other possibilities . Even the common garden hose , against a good background , will pro vide an interesting display of water .
The spray can be made to glisten with backlighting while a flash or reflector is used to light the model's face and expression .
SETS THE MOOD
Water can set the mood of a pic ture . It can suggest a relaxed attitude , a gay romp or sultry siren . The water can be used for action effect while the girl remains still - or , she can be jumping into a wave to cause a splash.
A swimming pool can often be used to achieve a relaxed pose with a figure model because both the subject and the water can be controlled ; you don't have to worry about waves . Inciden tally , the model can be aided in hold-
ing her position by stretching a piece of 50 - lb . test monofilament fishing line across the pool . This will be invisible to the camera but will give just the right amount of support to her mid riff so she can assume a graceful float ing position .
Pools are good for underwater work , too . For some reason , however , there is a difference in the clarity of water from pool to pool . The warmer the water happens to be , the murkier it seems to be ; what looks clear to the naked eye is often not as clear when the pictures are printed . There is a diffused effect .
There are a few pointers that are appropriate here for use when work ing underwater . Try not to stir up the
water with a lot of activity . Put some alum in the filter system or run a bag of it around the pool so that it will cause all sediment in the water to sink to the bottom , then vacuum it up . Both photographer and model should slide into the pool trying to keep from rippling the surface or disturbing any sediment that may have escaped the cleaning operations .
By taking these precautions , you are guaranteed increased clarity . Also , the closer the subject to the camera , the less diffused the result .
