Snapshot and instant pictures
The snapshot is no longer totally despised by serious critics of photography . On the con trary , some consider it a valid form of por traiture , mainly because snapshots are most often taken by close members of the family , and are usually very natural and spontaneous .
There is no better snapshooting camera than an SX - 70 instant picture camera . The kind of incredulous awe that greeted the first demon stration of the Daguerreotype in 1839 is still present when you watch the square print emerge from the bottom of the SX - 70 camera . Suddenly the picture begins to form , and in about one minute a complete full color image appears right in front of your eyes . The controls on the special cameras are limited - no adjust ment of f stop or shutter speed is possible , and the lens is fixed . Nevertheless , it is feasible to alter the overall exposure slightly using the camera's lighten / darken control .
In spite of the constraints of the system which precludes any printing controls , some photographers do achieve highly artistic results from Polaroid instant materials .
