تأسست دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة عام ،۱۹۷۱، واستطاعت تحقيق تطور مذهل خلال وقت قياسي بالتوازي مع تبنيها توجهاً ثقافياً جديداً وتطورات مشهودة تحول في سياقها من التصوير الفوتوغرافي من التناظري إلى الرقمي.
وتشكل الطفرة الاقتصادية والعمرانية التي شهدتها مدينة دبي، بالإضافة إلى واقعها متعدد الأوجه بيئة مثلى لاحتضان معرض دبي للصورة، الذي من شأنه تكريس رؤية عالمية حول فن التصوير الفوتوغرافي
ويهدف هذا المعرض الفريد إلى تلخيص مفاهيم القرنين العشرين والحادي والعشرين عبر صور مميزة يقدمها المقيمين الفنيين من مختلف أنحاء العالم ممن يشتهرون بالنزاهة والإبداع في مجال التصوير الفوتوغرافي).
وتستعرض المشاركة الإماراتية في هذا المعرض مجموعة صور لدبي خلال خمسينات القرن الماضي مطبوعة من صور شفافة لأول مرة ومنتقاة من المجموعة الشخصية لسمو الشيخ حمدان بن محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم. وتبين هذه الصور وهج الضوء الرائع على رمال الصحراء والشطان، بالإضافة إلى الأنماط المعمارية والناس والقرى المتناثرة في الصحراء، والتي تجسد بمجملها لمحة تاريخية غنية عن الإمارة.
وتتسم أعمال المصورين الشباب والمعاصرين من دولة الإمارات، والتي يتولى تقييمها جاسم العوضي، بعمق فريد تكتسبه من سياقها التاريخي مع وجود تفسيرات عصرية واضحة في صور البورتريه والمناظر الطبيعية والحياة الساكنة.

ويجسد النتاج الجمالي للمعرض طبيعة مزيجه الساحر الذي يشمل ١٨ معرضاً معاً، وهو بذلك يعكس التطور التدريجي لفن التصوير الفوتوغرافي وجوهر كل بلد مشارك.

ويشارك في المعرض دول من مناطق متنوعة حول العالم بما في ذلك - أستراليا والبرازيل، والصين، وكوريا، والمملكة المتحدة وإيرلندا، والولايات المتحدة وكندا، ومصر، وهولندا وبلجيكا، والمجر والجمهورية التشيكية، والبرتغال وإسبانيا، وفرنسا، والهند، وألمانيا، واليابان، والمكسيك، وجنوب أفريقيا، والمغرب والإمارات العربية المتحدة.
إن القرار بتوسيع مفهوم التصوير الفوتوغرافي ليجسد رؤية جمالية عالمية المستوى يعزى في جانب منه إلى الرغبة بتثقيف جمهور دبي، وبالتالي تسليط الضوء على مكانة المدينة كمنصة مستقبلية لهذا المجال.
وتظهر المعارض المشاركة الفنانين / المصورين في جميع الحالات - فتبدو أعمالهم تارة أحادية البعد وتصور تارة أخرى فترة ما قبل أو بعد حقبة الاستعمار، وأحيانا تطرح أسئلة حول المفهوم الجمالي، وتقدم هويات ثقافية متعددة، وتناقش الموضوعية والواقعية، والتسلسل الزمني والسرد البسيط منهما والمعقد؛ فتأتي هذه الأعمال بالمجمل قوية على المستوى البصري ومهمة على المستوى التاريخي.
ولطالما تبنت دبي نهجا توثيقياً بمجال التصوير الفوتوغرافي، والصور الساكنة والبورتريه، والاستجابات المواضيعية، والتفسيرات التي تحفزها مسابقات الإمارة السنوية والخبرات التي يتم تدريسها في جامعات دولة الإمارات. ويعد إطلاق معرض بهذا الحجم على شكل متحف فكرة غير مسبوقة في العالم، مما يؤكد طموحات ومساعي دبي اللامحدودة.
ويجسد معرض دبي للصورة، رغبة الإمارة في توسيع وتطوير التصوير الفوتوغرافي ليتجاوز حدود دولة الإمارات، كما يمثل دعوة للجمهور العالمي والمقيمين الفنيين كي يتشاركوا رؤاهم الفنية والإبداعية مع دبي.
ومن جهتي فقد جمعت كل هؤلاء الأشخاص والأعمال الفنية معاً للاحتفاء بوسيلة التواصل الفريدة هذه، وربما للوصول إلى طريقة أفضل كي يفهم
بعضنا الآخر.
لقد كان الأمر بالنسبة لي ثمرة شغف كبير تجاه فن التصوير، وحماس عارم الرؤية فكرة ما تتحقق على أرض الواقع بفضل الجهود الدؤوبة التي بذلها الجميع في هذا المشروع المهم - بمن فيهم المصورين والمقيمين الفنيين.
وتستحق جائزة حمدان بن محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم الدولية للتصوير الضوئي و منظمة التصوير العالمية كل التقدير لاضطلاعهما بتنفيذ هذا
المشروع المتميز.
وأخيراً، لا يمكنني إلا أن أدعوكم لحضور هذه المعارض الفريدة بعقلية منفتحة ونظرة ثاقبة لاستكشاف مواضيعها التي تجمع التاريخي والاجتماعي من جهة مع الجمالي والوصفي من جهة أخرى، فتقدم لكم الفائدة والرؤى النيرة.
The United Arab Emirates was founded in 1971, and was able to achieve amazing development in record time, in parallel with its adoption of a new cultural trend and notable developments that transformed photography from analog to digital.
The economic and urban boom witnessed by the city of Dubai, in addition to its multi-faceted reality, constitutes an ideal environment to host the Dubai Photo Exhibition, which would devote a global vision to the art of photography.
This unique exhibition aims to summarize the concepts of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries through distinctive images presented by curators from around the world who are famous for their integrity and creativity in the field of photography.
The Emirati participation in this exhibition displays a group of photographs of Dubai during the 1950s, printed from transparent images for the first time and selected from the personal collection of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. These pictures show the wonderful glow of light on the desert sand and the beach, in addition to the architectural patterns, people and villages scattered in the desert, which together embody a rich historical overview of the emirate.
The works of young and contemporary UAE photographers, curated by Jassim Al Awadhi, are characterized by a unique depth drawn from their historical context with clear modern interpretations in portraits, landscapes and still life.

The aesthetic outcome of the exhibition embodies the nature of its charming mix, which includes 18 exhibitions together, and thus reflects the gradual development of the art of photography and the essence of each participating country.

Countries from various regions around the world are participating in the exhibition, including - Australia, Brazil, China, Korea, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States, Canada, Egypt, the Netherlands, Belgium, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Portugal, Spain, France, India, Germany, Japan, Mexico, South Africa, Morocco and the United Arab Emirates.
The decision to expand the concept of photography to embody a world-class aesthetic vision is partly due to the desire to educate the Dubai public, thus highlighting the city's position as a future platform for the field.
Participating exhibitions feature artists/photographers in all cases - their works sometimes seem one-dimensional and sometimes depict a pre- or post-colonial period, sometimes asking questions about aesthetic concept, presenting multiple cultural identities, discussing objectivity and realism, simple and complex chronology and narrative; Overall, these works are strong on the visual level and important on the historical level.
Dubai has long embraced a documentary approach to photography, still lifes and portraits, thematic responses and interpretations stimulated by the emirate's annual competitions and experiences taught at universities in the UAE. Launching an exhibition of this size in the form of a museum is an unprecedented idea in the world, which confirms Dubai's unlimited ambitions and endeavors.
The Dubai Photo Exhibition embodies the emirate's desire to expand and develop photography beyond the borders of the UAE. It also represents an invitation to the global audience and artistic residents to share their artistic and creative visions with Dubai.
For my part, I have brought all these people and works of art together to celebrate this unique means of communication, and perhaps to find a better way to be understood.

For me, it was the result of a great passion for the art of photography, and an overwhelming enthusiasm to see an idea realized on the ground thanks to the tireless efforts made by everyone in this important project - including the photographers and curators.
The Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award and the World Photography Organization deserve all appreciation for undertaking this implementation.
