To the client who pays the bills , however , the commercial is the all - important part of the television show . The program is there only to keep the audience captive and responsive to his message . As far as the photographer is concerned the commercial is all important . If he is engaged in filming a commercial , he must devote to it all his talent , his skill and his background experience so that it represents his best efforts in every respect .
Filming commercials requires professional equipment , actors , directing , and above all , a professional attitude on the part of all , including the cameraman . Commercials vary widely in their approach to the basic problem of selling . the product . One commercial may use the dramatic approach in which the product is part of a short story - telling episode enacted by professional actors . Another may concentrate on showing the product in use while relying on the power of suggestion to sell it . Still another may show the results obtained through the use of the product by illustrating the point with before and after sequences to drive home the benefits to be derived . Other commercials avoid any direct selling of the product itself but instead emphasize an emotion or a mood associated with its use . These are by no means the only approaches , but they are the principal ones and they are all used successfully day in and day out .
