The Institute of the Arab World in Paris is a symbolic synthesis between Eastern and Western engineering innovations
معهد العالم العربي هو مؤسسة تعنى بالثقافة العربية خاضعة للقانون الفرنس . تم تأسيس المعهد في عام 1980 ، ليفتح أبـوابـه عام 1987. وهو ثمرة تعاون بين الدول العربية والحكومة الفرنسية . يقع بين ضفاف نهر السين و جامعة بيير وماري كوري في الدائرة الخامسة من باريس
The Arab World Institute is an institution dealing with Arab culture subject to French law. The Institute was established in 1980, to open its doors in 1987. It is the result of cooperation between the Arab countries and the French government. It is located between the banks of the Seine and the University of Pierre and Marie Curie in the 5th arrondissement of Paris
يتألف المعهد من العديد من الطوابق التي تحتوي على مكتبة فيها عربية وكتب أجنبية ذات الصلة بالثقافة العربية والاسلامية ، والمكتبة مكونة من ثلاثة طوابق ولكن كل طابق أخذ طابقين من طوابق المبنى أي ستة طوابق من بنية المعهد وبالتالي كان فراغ طوابق المكتبة كبيرا ومريحا للقراء ، كما يوجد في المعهد متحف ومكتبة لبيع الكتب وصالة لعرض الافلام ومكان مخصص للمعارض ، ويوجد في الطابق الأخير صالة متعددة الاستعمالات و مطعم مقهى شرقيان بالإضافة إلى تراس ذو إطلالة رائعة على باريس . و وبحسب المنشور المخصص للمعهد فقد قام بتصميم المبنى مجموعة من المهندسين المعماريين ( جان نوفيل ، جيلبير لوزينيس ، بيـار سوريا وشركـة أستـوديـو الهندسية ) ، ويمثـل هـذا التصميـم حصيلـة رمزية بين الابتكارات الهندسيـة الشرقية والغربيـة وجسرا يصل التقاليد بالحداثة . فوراء حداثة المبنى ، المشكل من الزجاج والالمنيوم ، يمكن أن نلاحـط العديـد مـن العناصر الهندسية الآتيـة مـن التقاليد الشرقيـة ، مشربيـات الواجهـة الجنوبية والحديقة الداخلية ، وبرج الكتـب ، وهي عناصر أعيـد تشكيلها حسب نظم جديدة .
The institute consists of many floors that contain a library containing Arabic and foreign books related to Arab and Islamic culture. The library consists of three floors, but each floor took two floors of the building, i. The institute has a museum, a library for selling books, a movie theater, and a place designated for exhibitions. On the last floor, there is a multi-purpose hall and an oriental cafe restaurant, in addition to a terrace with a wonderful view of Paris. According to the publication dedicated to the institute, the building was designed by a group of architects (Jean Nouvel, Gilbert Luzenis, Pierre Soria and Studio Engineering), and this design represents a symbolic outcome between eastern and western engineering innovations and a bridge that connects tradition with modernity. Behind the modernity of the building, which is formed of glass and aluminum, we can notice many engineering elements coming from the eastern traditions, the mashrabiyas of the southern facade, the inner garden, and the book tower, which were reconfigured according to new systems.
المشربيات هي من أهم ما يتميز به المعهد من حيث التصميم فهي تتحكم بمرور الضوء عن طريق خلايا ضوئية تعمل على إغلاق نوافذ المشربية عندما تشتد أشعة الشمس ، ويتم الإغلاق عن طريق محركات ضغط هيدروليكية صغيرة ، إثنان في كل مشربية .
Mashrabiyas are one of the most important features of the institute in terms of design. They control the passage of light by means of photocells that close the windows of the mashrabiya when the sun's rays are intense, and the closing is done by means of small hydraulic pressure motors, two in each mashrabiya.
يؤخذ على معهد العالم العربي التصميم الرديء لكراسي المكتبة ، فهي مما لا شك فيه متناسقة الـروح العامة لتصميم البناء ، ولكنها غير مريحة على الاطلاق باعتبار أن المسند الظهري لها مكون من قضيب حديدي واحد لا يمكن الاستناد عليه إلا لدقائق ، كما أنها لا تدخل تحت الطاولات وهذا ما يجعل إسناد اليدين على الطاولة والظهر على الكرسي بنفس الوقت عملاً مستحيلا ، و هي بالتالي تأخذ حجما كبيرا يجعل المسافة بين طاولتين كبيرة جدا ، وبإعتبار أن مادتها الأساسية هي الجديد المطلي بلون الألمنيوم فهي تنتج أحيانا ضجيجا أثناء تنقل القراء .
كما يؤخذ على المكتبة تصميمياً أن مأخذ الكهرباء المخصصة لكمبيوترات القراء متوضعة في الأرض ، في حين أن غالبية المكتبات تضعها على الطاولات . ولكن في جميع الأحوال فإن معهد العالم العربي صمم ليكون من أحد المعالم المهمة و المميزة في باريس ، ومن النادر أن يمر في باريس سائحا أو زائرا ولا يزور هذا المبنى الجميل . The Arab World Institute is accused of the poor design of library chairs, as they are undoubtedly consistent with the general spirit of building design, but they are not comfortable at all, given that their backrest consists of a single iron rod that can only be leaned on for a few minutes, and they do not fit under tables. This is what makes resting the hands on the table and the back on the chair at the same time an impossible task, and therefore it takes a large size that makes the distance between two tables very large, and considering that its main material is the new one painted in the color of aluminum, it sometimes produces noise while the readers are moving.
It is also taken into account in the design of the library that the electrical outlets for computers for readers are located on the ground, while most libraries place them on tables. But in all cases, the Institute of the Arab World was designed to be one of the important and distinctive landmarks in Paris, and it is rare for a tourist or visitor to pass through Paris without visiting this beautiful building.
