Wynn Bullock
American photographer Wynn Bullock's work is , at its simplest level , concerned with por traying nature often in combination with the human body . Influenced both by the Bauhaus and the photography of Edward Weston , Bul lock discovers mirages and visions in the elements of landscape . His rocks and gnarled trees have faces , and eroded soil takes the shape of a procession of hooded figures . The nudes which adorn his landscapes are natu ralistic , and seem to be an intrinsic part of their surroundings . His picture of a naked child lying face down in a forest glade ( see below ) is possibly the best known of all his photographs . It was used in Edward Steichen's The Family of Man exhibition ( 1955 ) , which traveled the world representing the work of hundreds of photographers from all countries , showing their interpretations of the cycle of human life , in its myriad variations . Another of Bullock's preoccupations is space - time - the symbolic addition of a fourth
dimension to his images . He has said that he is less concerned with showing objects than with making pictures of light . To him , light is similar to sound for its scope for personal expression . Both are found everywhere , and have psycho logical and physiological impact .

Typical subjects include patterns of sunlight coming through curtains , reflections in everyday objects , superimpositions of faces on stone , and semi transparent figures related to old monuments . In old age , he has preserved a fresh , almost child like sensory perception , an almost disin terested view of simple things , and a talent for communicating them as significant .
